Ifeoluwa Adisa of University of Port Harcourt on Tuesday won the gold medal in the 10,000m women’s final at the ongoing Nigerian University Games Association (NUGA) in Lagos.

Adisa, who finished in 42 minutes 21 seconds, is a 400 Level student of Agric Economics and Extension.

Speaking after the race, the athlete said she was overwhelmed with her victory on her first appearance at NUGA.

“I feel so great because this is my first appearance in NUGA and also running a race for competition.

“I was thinking, while running, of giving up but I thank God I was able to finish,” she said.

Adisa added that she also represented her school in judo where she won the silver medal also.

“I think I will be leaving judo to concentrate more on the athletics sport.

“I do not have any role model but my friends call me Hassan anytime I run because of my speed,” she said.

Adisa ascribed her victory to intense hard work from her coach, and the enabling environment in her school.

Also, Uba Adeze of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike in Abia won the silver medal of the 10,000m event.

Glory Okwo of Ignatius Ajuru University of Education won the event’s bronze medal.
