Palestine President Mahmoud Abbas told his Egyptian counterpart that complete calm is crucial in all Palestinian territories.

• October 7, 2021

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and his Egyptian counterpart Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi on Wednesday discussed, by telephone, the readiness to resume peace and achieve calm with Israel.

The official Palestinian news agency, WAFA, said that Mr Abbas explained to Mr al-Sisi the Palestinian side’s readiness to act under the auspices of the Middle East Quartet, which comprises the United States, Russia, the European Union and the UN.

Mr Abbas told Mr al-Sisi that complete calm is crucial in all Palestinian territories along with the need to “halt the attacks of the Israeli army forces and settlers against the Palestinians,’’ WAFA said.

Meanwhile, Mr al-Sisi told Mr Abbas that Egypt firmly supports the Palestinian state and the Palestinian people led by President Abbas, and considers the Palestine Liberation Organisation the sole and legitimate representative of the Palestinian people.
