The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has condemned the alleged shooting of a civilian market boat ferrying foodstuffs and other household goods in Dutch Island area of Rivers.

In a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, in Abuja on Saturday, the party also called for investigation into the incident.

The party said it was alarmed by reports of how a military helicopter allegedly shot at civilians who were ferrying foodstuffs and household items from Nembe-Bille jetty.

Describing it as a bloody assault that caused traders to sustain gunshot wounds, PDP said the investigation of the “terrifying incident” must be immediate and comprehensive.

The party called for calm as the authorities unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident.
