British Broadcaster Piers Morgan has decided to step down as an anchor of ITV’s Good Morning Britain after six years, the broadcaster announced.

This follows Mr. Morgan’s comments about the interview the Duke and Duchess of Sussex granted with Oprah Winfrey.

“I’m sorry, I don’t believe a word she said, Meghan Markle. I wouldn’t believe it if she read me a weather report,” Mr. Morgan said on air on Monday’s show.

The broadcaster,  ITV, said in a statement: “Following discussions with ITV, Piers Morgan has decided now is the time to leave Good Morning Britain. ITV has accepted this decision and has nothing further to add.”

On Tuesday, Mr. Morgan walked off the set of Good Morning Britain after exchanging words with weather presenter Alex Beresford who criticised the host for “continuing to trash” Ms. Meghan.

The Royal family also reacted to the interview, a statement released from Buckingham Palace on behalf of Queen Elizabeth read:

“The whole family is saddened to learn the full extent of how challenging the last few years have been for Harry and Meghan. The issues raised, particularly that of race, are concerning. While some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately. Harry, Meghan and Archie will always be much loved family members.”

On Sunday, Meghan Markle said in the tell-all  interview that her life as a British royal was so isolating and lonely at one point she “didn’t want to be alive anymore.”

In the interview, the Duchess described events and experiences from her time as a royal, calling herself a victim of an image-obsessed Buckingham Palace and speaking on how concerned the family was as to how dark her son Archie’s skin colour would be.

This interview makes up their first public appearance since she and Prince Harry announced and confirmed their plans to step back from senior roles in the British royal family.
