Police arraign man for biting off cop’s finger

A 29-year-old man, Samuel Jacob, was on Tuesday docked in a magistrates’ court for biting off the index finger of a police officer Musa Hassan.

A 29-year-old man, Samuel Jacob, was on Tuesday docked in a magistrates’ court for biting off the index finger of a police officer Musa Hassan.

The police charged Mr Jacob, whose address was not provided, with assault and inflicting a wound.

The prosecution counsel, Clement Okuiomose, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on October 3, at about 11:30 a.m. at Oloko, Badagry area of Lagos.

Mr Okuiomose also told the court that the defendant poured fuel on Mr Hassan while performing his lawful duty.

The prosecution said the offence contravened sections 246 and 174 of the Criminal Law of Lagos state, 2015.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Chief Magistrate Fadaunsi Adefioye admitted the defendant to bail of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Mr Adefioye adjourned the case until November 11 for mention.
