Police charge notorious herdsman Wakili with murder, kidnapping
Oyo Police Command has charged notorious Fulani warlord Iskilu Wakili with murder and kidnapping.
Mr. Wakali was arraigned before a Chief Magistrates’ Court, Iyaganku in Ibadan on Tuesday on a six count charges bordering on conspiracy, murder, kidnapping and armed robbery.
He was charged alongside his sons Abu and Samaila, and Aliyu Manu
The prosecution counsel, Adewale Amos, alleged that Mr. Wakili and his accomplices were responsible for the death of Cpl. Akinwale Akande in October 2015.
He also claimed that the warlord and his cohort robbed and kidnapped a woman on August 15, 2020, in Idi – Emi, Oyo State.
Mr. Amos said the offence breached the provisions of sections 316, 324 and punishable under Section 319 of the Criminal Code of Oyo State 2000.
He added that the offence also contravened the provisions of sections 3, 6, and punishable under section 4 (2) of the Kidnapping (Prohibition ) Law 2016 and Section 6b of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act .Cap RII, Vol.14, Laws of Federation of Nigeria 2004 and section (2) (a) (b) of the Robbery and Firearms ( Special Provisions) .
In his ruling Emmanuel Idowu, the Chief Magistrate, directed the police to return the case file to Oyo directorate of public prosecution.
Despite not taking the plea of the suspects for lack of jurisdiction, the magistrate ruled that they be remanded in Abolongo Correctional facility in Oyo State.
The magistrate adjourned until May 17, for mention.
The warlord was arrested last week by operatives of the ethnic militia, OPC, in connection with the incessant cases of kidnapping and banditry in Ibarapa and Oke Ogun area of Oyo state.
Prior to his arrest, Mr. Wakili, 70, allegedly terrorised residents of Ayete, Kajola, and neighbouring villages in Ibarapa land, displacing them from their farms, kidnapping their rich men, and raping their women.
