Russia will halt invasion if Ukraine meets demands: Spokesperson
Russia on Monday said it will immediately stop its war against Ukraine if authorities in the country meet certain conditions.
Moscow demands that Ukraine amend its constitution to abandon its ambition to join NATO or “any bloc”, recognise Crimea as part of Russia and Donetsk and Luhansk as independent regions.
“They should make amendments to their constitution according to which Ukraine would reject any aims to enter any bloc,’’ according to Russian presidential spokesperson, Dmitry Peskov.
“We have also spoken about how they should recognise that Crimea is Russian territory and that they need to recognise that Donetsk and Lugansk are independent states.
“And that’s it. Then, Russia’s military operations will stop in a moment,’’ Mr Peskov told Reuters.
Mr Peskov added that Moscow would finish the demilitarisation of Ukraine and urge Kyiv to stop its military action.
On February 24, under the command of President Vladimir Putin, Russia invaded Ukraine, after it granted independence to the Donetsk and Luhansk separatist regions.
Since the invasion that has been widely condemned by the U.S. European Union, and other countries, Moscow has been hit with barrage of sanctions on Russian entities and individuals.
