The owner of Pavilion Hotel and Suites in Aiyepe, Odogbolu Local Government Area of Ogun State is yet to honour police invitation, in connection with cameras found planted in the hotel rooms.

The invitation by the police in Ogun follows the public uproar about “invasion of privacy” after five cameras were discovered by a man who was said to be a lodger in a now viral video on Sunday.

The man was seen in the video plucking cameras carefully concealed in the room’s air conditioner.

Another video showed guests questioning a man who is said to be the owner of the hotel on why he “infringed on people’s privacy” but the man called their bluff and walked away from the scene.

When contacted by Peoples Gazette, the state police spokesperson, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the hotelier resides in Lagos and has been invited for questioning.

Mr. Oyeyemi added that “he promised to come and we are still expecting him to come and explain why it is so.”

Similarly, the spokesperson for the National Hotel Association (NHA), Jijiwin Akpovwovwo, said the association would adopt the principle of fair hearing as investigations are currently ongoing, to check if it was a setup or not.

“We’ll give the hotel management the opportunity to defend itself. I don’t know why somebody on earth will place cameras in their hotel rooms,” Mr. Akpovwovwo told the Gazette during a phone call while maintaining that the association cannot come to a conclusion until proper findings are made.

On the penalty if the hotel is found guilty, he said “we’ll impose a sanction on the hotel and of course, you should know the hotel can deny it if it is true, they may not be taken to court”, adding that the association was making findings about the source of the alleged misdemeanor.
