Super Eagles prey on pharaohs of Egypt

Nigerian Super Eagles defeated the highly rated Pharaohs of Egypt 1-0 in their first game of ongoing African Cup of Nations. 

The Eagles grabbed all three points in one of the biggest games in AFCON, staying top of Group D. 

Kelechi Iheanacho gave Nigeria the lead 30 minutes into the game, delivering a brilliant strike into far corner of the Pharaohs’ net. 

Super Eagles went into break with a goal lead, leaving the much rated Mo Salah-led Egypt struggling. 

Egypt dominated 57 per cent of ball possession with just two shots on target, while Nigeria with 43 ball possession, taking 5 shots on target. 

With Tuesday victory, three-time AFCON winner Eagles announced their presence as a strong contender for the title, while Egypt will need to work harder to bounce back. 

Nigeria is grouped with Egypt, Guinea-Bissau and Sudan and now maintain lead on the group log.
