Brazilian defender Thiago Silva has extended his contract with English football club Chelsea to the end of 2022/2023.

The European champions disclosed this in a statement on their website on Monday.

“Thiago Silva’s time at Chelsea will continue into the 2022/23 season after the defender extended his contract at the club by one year,” the statement reads in part.

The Blues lauded Silva for his contribution since joining the team, describing his stay in the club as “thoroughly successful.”

“Following a thoroughly successful start to life at Stamford Bridge, which included winning the Champions League for the first time in his career having joined from PSG in the summer of 2020, Thiago Silva continues to belie his age,” the statement said.

Reacting to his contract extension, Silva in the statement was quoted to have said “It’s amazing to have this relationship with the fans and not only that but the players, staff and the whole club. I’m going to give everything to keep playing at this level in the most important league in the world.”

Silva, 37, joined the Blues from Paris Saint-Germain over 18 months ago in 2020, initially on just a one-season deal. He has made 56 appearances since joining Chelsea.
