Singer Timaya finally came out to share his own side of the story after he was called out and arrested for an alleged “hit and run” incident on Wednesday.

In an Instagram live video on Thursday, Timaya said he did not willingly run away after bashing a woman’s car.

“Yesterday I was driving… and the next thing, I hit a lady’s car. I didn’t even know I did that, on the side. When she stopped my vehicle, I stopped. She was like you hit me” he said.

The singer claimed he stopped immediately when the lady brought the accident to his notice and sought a private settlement of the matter.

He said he requested for the woman’s number and asked that they moved their vehicles away from the road as it was obstructing traffic.

“Next thing, I saw four guys running down, so me try to move away as I saw the guys running down, bro na so the woman just hold my side mirror of my car, so that’s how she fell,” he explained further in Pidgin English.

The Cold Outside crooner said he had sent his people to go to the hospital where the victim is and he also went to see her husband, only to realise that a police report had already been filed.

Timaya enunciated that the lady placed her life on the line for a measly bumper issue and that he would never be involved in a hit and run and would in fact have helped if not for his fear of the four men running to him and also trying to avoid it turning into a social media issue, even though that eventually became the case.

The issue of the alleged hit and run was initially brought to social media by Osinubi Omowunmi, the sister of the victim, narrating the story of how her sister was almost killed, in an Instagram post where she also shared the video of her sister in a hospital, with bruises and injuries on her face, hand and knees.

“This celebrity and how they behave @timaya nearly kill (sic) my sister this morning. She hit her with his car and run(sic). At Ikate few hours ago, he hit my sister’s car and she came down to ask him to look [at] what he did. This heartless human was asking for number and she told him he would block her, rather for @timayatimaya to do the needful. He hit my sister with his car and ran away,” she bemoaned.

She also went on to explain that she had privately reached out to the singer on Instagram via his DMs but was blocked after Timaya read her message.
