Sprinter Tobi Amusan achieved a personal best time in Tokyo, overcoming a slow start to finish fourth in the final of the women’s 100m hurdles though her return did not earn her a podium finish.

Amusan had earlier qualified for the semi finals with a time of 12.72 and then qualified for the finals with a time of 12.62.

Going into the finals, she matched up against gold medal favourites Jasmine Camacho-Quinn of Puerto Rico, Kendra Harrison of the United States and Megan Tapper of Jamaica who won the gold, silver and bronze respectively.

She posted her best time in the Olympics in the finals with 12.60s but it was not enough to get her to the podium, losing out to Tapper by just 0.05 seconds.

If she had surpassed her personal best time, she would have been good for a silver medal. Nonetheless, she had an incredibly impressive campaign in a year that has been calamity ridden for Nigeria.
