Tricycle operator jailed for robbing passenger
An Upper Area Court in Nasarawa Gwong, Jos, has sentenced a 19-year-old tricycle operator, Jerry Bala, to six months in the correctional centre for intimidating and stealing from a woman.
A panel of two magistrates, Adama Galadima and Ishaq Danjuma, sentenced Mr Bala without an option of a fine after he pleaded guilty to the two-count charge brought against him.
The panel said the judgement would serve as a deterrent to those who would want to indulge in such criminal acts.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Ijuptil Thawur, told the court that the case was reported at the Nasarawa Gwong police station in Jos on October 2, 2021, by Chundung Steven, the complainant.
The prosecutor said that the complainant entered the convict’s tricycle, and on the way, the convict stopped and attempted to strangle the complainant.
“The convict made away with her bag, phone valued at N35,000, ten measures of rice, and a cash sum of N8,170,” the prosecutor said.
Mr Thawur said that the offences contravened the provisions of Sections 237,377, and 272 of the Plateau State Penal Code Law.
