Two die in Kano boat mishap

Two persons died and another two survived a boat mishap at Zangon Durgu Village in Rimin Gado local government area of Kano, the state fire service has said.

Two persons died and another two survived a boat mishap at Zangon Durgu Village in Rimin Gado local government area of Kano, the state fire service has said.

A statement issued by the spokesperson for the fire service, Saminu Abdullahi, on Monday in Kano, said the victims boarded the canoe from Zangon Durgu to Kanya village when the incident occurred.

“We received a distress call from Mr Munir Dahiru at 11:50 a.m. that a canoe had capsized. Upon receiving the information, we quickly sent our rescue team to the scene at about 12:30 p.m. to bring out the victims’’ the statement said.

Mr Abdullahi said the mishap involved four persons — two persons –Sha’aban Bala, 35 and Rabiu Bashari, 30–died while two persons — Sani Shitu, 25, Jabir Sani, 30 — were rescued.

“The dead victims were handed over to Shafi’u Abdullahi-Gulu the vice-chairman of Rimin Gado local government area,” he added. “The cause of the incident is under investigation.”
