A teacher has been accused of allegedly beating a two-year-old child because she could not recite the alphabet in school.

The toddler’s uncle, identified on Twitter as @WakaWakaTailor, shared an image of his niece with bruises on her back.

The incident happened at Unique Vilos Montessori, a private primary school in the Maza-Maza area of Lagos state.

The uncle said that when the toddler’s mother confronted the school teacher, the unidentified teacher admitted that she physically abused the child.

The teacher excused her action stating that other students received 24 strokes each, while the child was not seriously flogged.

The uncle said that the school management accused the toddler’s mother of demoralising the school on social media.

“This is my 2 year old niece that was flogged mercilessly bcos she couldn’t recite the English alphabets.

“When my sister, the mother confronted the teacher, she boasted that it wasn’t only the girl that was flogged but others were also flogged 24 strokes each (children of below 3 years o).

“And that she will flog them that this one is just testing,” @ WakaWakaTailor tweeted.

“My sister also told me that one of her child came back the other day bleeding from the nose. When she asked her, the girl said she was flogged on the head, she confronted the school and they denied it.this one they can’t deny cos the marks of the flogging is there.

“The owner of the school, according to my sister accused her of wanting to bring down her school when she reported to her.

“The name of the school is unique vilos.16 alahun – ozumba street, maza-maza Lagos,” the uncle tweeted.

When contacted by Peoples Gazette, a Unique Vilos Montessori representative said the matter has been resolved and the school suspended the teacher

The representative stated that an apology have been tendered to the family of the toddler.

“We just want to resolve everything first. The school is aware, and we are pleading that they should forgive. We will take care of the incident,” she said.

She added that “The child’s mother said she did not want any problem and only want to treat her daughter. We have resolved the issue, the teacher was suspended.”

Since the post went viral on social media, it has sparked outrage among Nigerians, with people coming forward to say that the physical abuse from the school teacher is unacceptable.
