The U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken will on Tuesday April 27, hold a virtual meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari.

The press statement released on Monday by Mr Blinken’s spokesman Ned Price said the U.S. top official will embark on the virtual travel to Africa to speak with President Muhammadu Buhari and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama.

“People-to-people connections, underpinned by the dynamic Nigerian diaspora in the United States, amplify and strengthen our relationship.  During his visit, Secretary Blinken will meet with President Buhari and Foreign Minister Onyeama to reiterate the value of our bilateral relationship and discuss issues of shared importance,” it reads.

This meeting is slated to take place after the American government issued a third-level alert, warning its citizens to reconsider travelling to Nigeria.

In March, Mr Blinken held talks with Mr  Onyeama, highlighting the importance of the United States and Nigeria’s bilateral relations.

Mr Blinken had welcomed the appointment of the new service chiefs to combat insurgency in the North-East and provide national security as well as reiterated U.S. support for Dr. Ngozi Okonjo Iweala as the new Director General of the WTO.
