UK pledges £16 million to support North-East’s education system

The United Kingdom on Wednesday pledged to provide educational support worth £16 million to the North-East in 2022.

Mamman Mohammed, the spokesman for Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe, disclosed this in a statement in Damaturu.

The British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Catriona Laing, disclosed this when she visited Buni on Wednesday.

The British envoy informed Mr Buni that the project targeting over 270,000 pupils includes the procurement of educational facilities and teachers’ training.

The high commissioner expressed satisfaction with the development strides recorded in Yobe, describing it as an impressive feat that motivated the UK government to partner with the state in education.

Ms Laing also commended the Yobe governor for his contributions to Nigeria’s political development and stability.

The high commissioner told Mr Buni that the UK was interested in a peaceful and successful general election in Nigeria come 2023.
