The United Kingdom will this week sign a sanctions bill against Russia, Foreign Secretary Liz Truss has said.

Mr Truss, who is currently visiting Moscow to meet with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, said the sanctions would be the toughest ever on Russia.

“Our new sanctions legislation will be signed by an FCDO minister this week and will be laid in parliament shortly after,’’ the Foreign Office said in a statement.

He added that the sanctions were part of a concerted effort with the U.S. and other partners.

The Russian Foreign Ministry said that, with the legislation, London wanted to impose restrictions on any company linked to the Russian state and strategically important to Russia
