The Vehicles Inspection Office (VIO) in Adamawa impounded no fewer than 6,850 vehicles, including tricycles between January and December 2021.

Abdullahi Mandi, Chief Vehicles Inspection Officer, made this revelation on Monday in Yola.

He said that during the period under review, the agency tested and authorised no fewer than 150 drivers that applied for driver’s license across the state.

“In 2021, we impounded about 5,000 vehicles and 1,850 tricycles because their owners’ failure to register them with the state ministry of transport.

“Some of the offences by motorists are: failure to update vehicle particulars, operating without driver’s licence, overload and other failure to meet roadworthy requirements,” he said.

Mr Mahdi commended the state government for recruiting 80 personnel in the last quarter of 2021, saying that had gone a long way in boosting the operations of the agency.

He said that before then, they had only 10 staff without any operational vehicle.

He appealed to government to provide the agency with more logistics, including towing vans, for effective service delivery.
