A three-storey building under construction at Akanbi Crescent in Yaba, Lagos, has collapsed with several workers trapped.

The incident occurred Saturday afternoon while workers were working at the site.

The cause of the collapse is not yet ascertained, but several witnesses said they won’t put the blame past substandard materials.

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) is presently at the scene making efforts to rescue the trapped workers.

Previous building collapse in Lagos have been blamed on the use of substandard materials and improper government authorisation.

At least 45 people died last year when a 21-storey building at Ikoyi collapsed.
