David Shearer reportedly “leaving” South Sudan mission in October

JUBA – The Special Representative of the Secretary-General (SRSG) and head of United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) David Shearer is leaving the world mission in earlier October, two sources who said they have direct knowledge on the matter, told Sudans Post.

“The SRSG David Shearer has been told to leave the mission this October. He was supposed to leave in January but that was reversed and he is leaving the mission in early October,” a UN staffer who requested not to be named said from Juba.

A WFP employee separately said she is familiar with the matter “but I don’t know the timeline for his departure. I know that he would have left in January, so, he is leaving he is leaving but I cannot answer the question of went.”

‘Not grounded in fact’

For his part, Kirk Kroeker, the Spokesperson and Head of Media Relations, Communications and Public Information for the United Nations Mission in South Sudan, said in a respond to a Sudans Post email that the speculations on Shearer’s departure lack fact apparently because it is not from official source.

“On speculation about SRSG David Shearer leaving UNMISS, any rumors along those lines are not grounded in fact,” Kroeker said.
