South Sudan soldiers spotted entering South Sudan’s capital Juba despite peace deal which provides that act [Photo via Al Jazeera English]
Speaking to Sudans Post on Friday, a senior security official said the reinforcement came from the SSPDF’s 3rd, 4th, 5th and 8th infantry divisions as well as Warrap Special Division and is composed of 120 soldiers each.
“There is currently a deployment of troops to Juba. The person deploying these forces is the department of operation. We don’t know if this has been ordered by the President,” the security source told Sudans Post on condition of anonymity.
According to the revitalized peace agreement which was signed in September 2018, the capital Juba and states capitals shall be demilitarized to avoid the reoccurrence of the past experience.
In 2016, thousands of forces belong to President Salva Kiir Mayardit fought a handful of members of Dr. Riek Machar Teny’s guards, eventually dislodging them after deadly fighting that killed over 1000 government soldiers and over 300 SPLA-IO soldiers.
