Gov’t pays almost $200,000 in blood compensation to Misseriya – VP Abdelbaggi

JUBA – South Sudan government has paid around $200,000 to Arab Misseriya tribe as a blood compensation for 10 Arab nomads killed during an attack against Dinka Malual in earlier 2019, according to vice-president Hussein Abdelbaggi.

In 2019, fighting triggered by attack by Misseriya resulted into killing of ten attackers and dozens of Dinka Malual villagers sparking regional and international condemnations.

The Misseriya later on attacked again a village in Abyei killing around 38 people.

In June, the Misseriya paid around 6.7 million South Sudanese Pounds over the killing of those people.

Last week, vice-president Hussein travelled to Khartoum where he met the deputy chairperson of Sudan’s Sovereign Council to whom he handed over 38 million South Sudanese Pound (around $200,000).

“We met and discussed the issues that are facing us especially on the breakdown of security and the killings that happened between the two communities and with regards to the blood compensation, as discussed. We don’t want people to kill themselves again,” he was quoted as saying by the Juba-based Eye Radio.
