Ruweng lawmaker calls VP Taban hypocrite, won’t apologize

JUBA – A member of South Sudan parliament representing a constituency in the country’s Greater Ruweng Administrative Area has attacked vice-president for infrastructure Taban Deng Gai calling him a hypocrite.

This comes days after lawyers representing the vice-president wrote to Mary Ayen, a lawmaker in the Transitional National Legislative Assembly (TNLA), asking her to apologize for defaming him.

The vice-president’s lawyers threatened to drag the lawmaker to court upon failure to apologize within seven days.

However, in a show of strength, the lawmaker called Taban a hypocrite and would not apologize to him because he has been the only person terrorizing the people of Ruweng Administrative area.

“Taban Deng is hypocrite,” the lawmaker said. How can I apologize to him when I am speaking on behalf of my people?”

“I am not going to apologize; He [Taban] is threatening to take me to court if I did not apologize, and I have nothing to apologize, something that I will not do,” Hon. Ayen said.

“It depends on the Vice President, he said that in seven days if did not apologize that they will take me to court, so I will not apologize.”

“I am a representative of the people and all that I have said is what I received from the people. I have nothing that I created on my own, so that was the situation that took place at home. I normally follow up if something happened or I go myself to the ground.”

“It depends on the Vice President, if they want to take me to court then all the evidence will be provided by the people because they are the witness but I have nothing myself.”
