JUBA – South Sudan’s main armed opposition group, SPLM-IO, is calling for calm among feuding sections of Upper Nile state’s Ulang County after sectional violence killed over 30 people over the weekend.

Duer Tut Duer, a senior member of the SPLM-IO and former opposition governor of Sobat state said in a statement that there was need for clam among the communities in Upper Nile state as other issues are pressing against their unity.

“For the last seven years, the SPLM-IO has been proud of you for the great role you played during our war against Juba Regime, that War killed most of your strong fighters. We are and will always remember them as fallen heroes for having died for a cause,” he said.

“Today, from both sides, more than twenty five strong young fighters who have been our prides for the last seven years will never fight by your sides anymore should anything happen between you ( Cieng Chuol Duong) and your real enemies, because they are not any longer with you, because you killed them. They died for nothing,” he added.

“Please, enough is enough; stop the auto destruction of Cieng Chuol Duong. Stop listening to those who incite you to kill yourselves,” said the senior opposition official.
