Under the Marcos Jr. administration, Karapatan said that there are 14 enforced disappearances, 134 extra-judicial killings, 822 arbitrary arrests, 577 forced or fake surrenders, more than 70,000 victims of indiscriminate firing and 48,000 victims of forced evacuation.
“State-sponsored terror under Marcos Jr. continues to weaponize laws and fully mobilize the state’s armed forces to silence staunch defenders of people’s rights and anti-corruption advocates, to intimidate citizens and activists in protests, and to terrorize communities."
Human rights groups said that those who get arrested are anti-corruption protesters instead of government officials involved in corruption scandals.
“There is no difference (between Marcos Jr. and Duterte). If not slapped with trumped up charges, people are being killed to silence them,” Defend Southern Tagalog spokesperson Charm Maranan said during the program at the Liwasang Bonifacio.
Rights groups stressed that the perjury case filed by former National Security Adviser Hermogenes Esperon Jr. in July 2019 was a retaliation for the writ of amparo and habeas data they filed to seek protection from the relentless state-sponsored red-tagging.

Today’s protest action comes just a day after the Supreme Court announced its decision to uphold the Anti-Terror Act of 2020, striking down portions of only two of its provisions.
