“It is deeply concerning that a legitimate educational activity and those who participated in it have been subjected to red-tagging.”
NUPL Chairperson Edre Olalia said that while they did not achieve full legal redress, the decision "can be viewed as a loud warning shot, as it were."
Carol Pagaduan Araullo said that she is filing the complaints “in behalf of those who do not have the means, the opportunity and support system to do so but who are experiencing red-tagging/terrorist labelling and the harassment, if not actual terror, this brings.”
The order came days after the high court issued a stern warning against a certain Lorraine Badoy.
“We call on the Supreme Court to not let this pass and to take immediate, concrete and firm action to protect justice actors and rule of law. The Court must hold accountable those who threaten and malign our judges and lawyers."
“In their eyes, we are all communists if we advocate for human rights and protection of civil liberties. My message to Badoy, the victims and families of all your red-tagging will go after you. We will not stop until you are convicted and jailed."
Human rights lawyers said that Maj. Gen. Jovito Palparan Jr. enjoys special privileges and is being given special treatment while serving his sentence for the crimes of which he has been convicted and being detained to answer for his other crimes.
"Instead of addressing and supporting our just call for safety, protection, rights and welfare, Usec. Badoy managed to red-tag us. This is grave misconduct and conduct unbecoming of a government official and as a medical doctor. She has no sympathy with us as her colleagues in the health profession." - Alliance of Health Workers
“We are fighting back. Let this serve as a warning against all other NTF-ELCAC (officials) and other government agencies. You will be held accountable."
“Is this really the mindset of the armed state agents, that they will just shoot the non-combatants? Not only shooting to disable them but shooting to kill them." - forensic expert Raquel Fortun
“Release your incontrovertible evidence in public.”
Little did the NTF-ELCAC spokesperson know that her challenge to Non would backfire quicker than her red-tagging spurts on social media. The task force immediately became the center of scrutiny, as its P19.1-billion programmed allocation in the 2021 budget starkly contrasts the image of hungry Filipinos lining up at community pantries.
"Is this is the kind of government we will give power to in the implementation of an Anti-Terror Law?"
Presidential Communications Office Undersecretary Lorraine Badoy defended red tagging progressive organizations during a hearing on anti-terror bill at the House of Representatives.
