THE GIRL
Run!
She suddenly screams and lunges toward the chest of the policeman
to push him away. Surprised by her prodigious attack, policeman B
falls to the ground on his back. The Amerasian darts away like an
arrow and disappears in the night. Policeman B pushes himself up with
his arms and stands back up. He stretches his arm out to slap the girl
on her face but seeing that the Amerasian is gone, he exhales,
relents, and drops his arm.
He stands there and looks at the girl for an instant. Her eyes glisten in
the dark and hazy night. She stands firm like a strong young pine tree
alone under the sky on a grassy and lonely hill. He walks away slowly.
56 EXT. THE STREET – MORNING
THE FATHER OF THE GIRL overcomes his dizziness and picks up the
Tale of Kiều. He clutches it to his chest and spends the entire day
wandering the streets like a madman.
57 INT. THE BAR - AFTERNOON - DARK
In the afternoon THE MAN goes into a bar, orders a liter of distilled rice
wine, and drinks it slowly until night falls.
He sits alone at a dirty table. The odor of food, beer, and wine hangs
heavily in the air. He pays no attention to the noises around him.
He just sits there slowly sipping his wine. He refills his cup as soon as
he empties it and drinks until the last drop of wine is gone.
A large, middle-aged man, who is sitting at a nearby table drinking with
his friends, observes the man discreetly from afar. This middle-aged
man is POLICEMAN A in street clothes.
