THE AMERASIAN (CONT'D)
THE AMERASIAN (CONT'D)
I really shouldn't be here with you
tonight, but I missed you so much
that I took the chance.
THE GIRL
(sitting up now)
O, my God! It is so dangerous. What
do we do now?
THE AMERASIAN
It's all my fault. It is because of
my black skin and the Amerasian
blood coursing through my veins. It
is because I was not able to
control myself and did what should
not be done.
The girl presses her head against the Amerasian's chest. He strokes
her hair. His hand is as black as her hair. The girl tries to comfort him.
THE GIRL
Please don't say that. Black skin
isn't ugly, and you aren't guilty
of anything. Your skin may be
black, but your heart is not. You
did something wrong, but you have
repented. If I forgive you, no one
else can condemn you.
The Amerasian buries his hand deep into the flowing hair that covers
his chest.
THE AMERASIAN
You understand and forgive me, but
society doesn't. You and I are
small and weak, while they are
strong and have all the power.
