He walks into the courtyard of the house and is about to open his
mouth to ask where to find him when THE AMERASIAN happens to
step outside. Seeing the policeman, the Amerasian panics and in a
flash dash toward the tea plantation. The policeman immediately starts
running after him.
59 EXT. THE TEA HILL – MORNING
A deadly foot race between the two men ensues. THE AMERASIAN
runs swiftly along the narrow path between two rows of tea trees,
bending low to avoid tree branches and jumping over low bushes.
Policeman B runs almost right behind him.
The distance between the two men lengthens over time. Policeman B
pulls out his gun and shoots into the air. Startled, the Amerasian turns
his head and stumbles on a large tree root. He falls to the ground, and
the pain is so intense that he cannot get up immediately. Policeman B
manages to catch up to the Amerasian but then falls next to him. The
two of them look at each other, both breathing heavily and unable to
say anything.
Once he recovers from the exertion, Policeman B exhales with
pleasure as he looks at the Amerasian beside him. He observes him
intensely. The Amerasian is still lying flat on the ground, one leg
stretched out, the other pulled up as if he were getting ready to sprint
away again. His eyes are open so wide that it looks as if they may pop
out. His long eyelashes don't move, and his fear is palpable.
Policeman B taps the gun in his hand.
POLICEMAN B
You can't run away now! There is
nothing to be afraid of. Let's talk
calmly. You need to tell me
everything.
The Amerasian attempts to sit up. Gradually he regains his wits.
