40.
The Amerasian looks at his mother with fearful eyes. He is also
startled because he cannot believe that events have moved so fast.
He is also embarrassed that he cannot say anything to console his
mother.
Coldly, Policeman A stands up.
POLICEMAN A
OK, I am leaving now to let you two
discuss things between yourselves.
But do remember that this is a very
secret matter that you can't
discuss with anyone else. I have
taken a big risk to talk to you
because I want to help you two. But
if my superiors hear of this, I can
easily lose my rank. There is one
thing I want to add: you, half
breed, should make yourself scarce
for a time, and preferably leave
town. If the police catch you, it's
over. You should probably leave
town tonight because they may come
anytime. Do you understand? I'll
come back tomorrow to meet you,
madam.
The dazed mother and son look on as the policeman walks out. She
keeps still for a moment and then wakes up from her stupor to close
the door in a hurry.
36 INT. THE GIRL'S HOME - MORNING
In the morning, as the girl's parents are pacing impatiently outside as
they wait for the arrival of the Amerasian and his mother, another man
comes.
This man is POLICEMAN B. His arrival surprises them.
