It's impossible to know for certain. Only a third party mold assessor can determine if there is mold in the air or on a material. This mold assessor uses air quality testing to determine if there is any airborne mold. They can also test surfaces for mold spores using slide, tape, and swab testing.

A moisture inspection involves a visual assessment of the property to identify any mold growth/mold problems. The moisture inspection includes an examination with the radio-wave moisturemeters in areas that are susceptible to high moisture and areas with visible moisture staining. Microbial growth will be checked inside the HVAC system and ductwork. To detect active moisture, the Thermal Imaging Camera will also be used in our inspection.

Paint over mold does not kill it. Mold-resistant paint only works to proactively prevent mold, NOT reactively kill mold. Kilz and Zinsser make primers that claim to kill mold, but you should still remove the mold before using either of these products. There are mold-inhibiting additives you can add to paint.
