Safety

In this section you will find information that will help ensure that you build your robots safely.

Do

  • Wear safety goggles
  • Think about how servo motors will move and get out of their way - Keep hands away from saw/drill/etc
  • Always work with a partner in case of accident
  • Have a safety kit handy
  • Know where to go for help
  • Make confident movements (hesitation can be dangerous, especially when drilling)
  • Make sure materials are fastened securely and hands are out of the way
  • Servos can overheat - be aware of the noise and heat levels
  • Make sure your workspace is clean, clear & large enough for your task
  • Be careful of power and extension cords - they can be a tripping hazard
  • Use the clamp when sawing (use paper towels or other materials to avoid getting gunk from the clamp on whatever it is you are sawing)
  • Drill before bending and cutting materials
  • Wear gloves when drilling into metal to avoid getting pierced by flying metal slivers
  • Make sure that the battery charger is set to 0.6V, and not 1.2V, when charging
  • Take your time
  • Mind where you leave sharp scraps of metal lying around - they can hurt others
