The police command in Cross River says 1,700 officers are deployed to ensure a hitch-free sallah celebration.

Police commissioner Gyogon Grimah, who disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, said the Muslim prayer grounds across Cross River would be heavily policed.

Mr Grimah said aside from the policing of prayer grounds, there would be the deployment of officers in strategic locations across the state. He said that the command was working with the vision of President Bola Tinubu as well as the Cross River governor to ensure effective policing before, during and after the sallah celebration.

Mr Grimah further said the command was taking policing beyond the land as the waterways were also guarded to forestall any security breach.

“For the evidence of doubt, we have deployed 1,700 of our men across the state. The mission is to ensure the safety of Muslim faithful in our mosques and also recreation areas or fun parks,” stated the police commissioner. “While we appeal to the people to be law-abiding during and after the Salah celebration, we are also sending a note of warning to anyone or group whose plans are to cause trouble to think otherwise.”
