Reverend Father Godfrey Gopep of the St Finberrs’ Catholic Church, Rayfield, Jos, says Nigerians “must work hard and ensure credible leaders that have the interest of this nation at heart are elected in 2023.”

”God will do his part and we must do ours too; we must not fold our arms and wait on God, we must also be deliberate in changing our story by voting the right people in 2023, ” Mr Gogep said during his Sunday homily.

The priest challenged the people to put ethnic, regional and religious sentiments aside and vote for persons that meant well for the country and were ready to serve and not to be served.

He decried that the nation was currently bedevilled by insecurity, poverty, hunger, unemployment and other challenges,  hence needed committed and selfless leaders to move it to greater heights

”We don’t need to be reminded of our current challenges; the people in villages are being killed on a daily basis, while those in the cities are dying of hunger, poverty, squalor and what have you.

“So, while we advocate for deliberate and conscious prayer, we must wake up from our slumbers to change the narrative.

The cleric appealed to religious and traditional leaders to be wary of bad politicians and should always speak to truth power rather than hobnob with them for selfish gains.

He also called on members of political parties to put primordial interests aside and present credible persons to seek public offices.

He also advised leaders at all levels to appoint credible persons as their advisers and not wicked, selfish and untruthful ones.
