Nasiru Idris, the All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial candidate in Kebbi, says he plans to establish a ministry to tackle political thuggery in the state if elected.

Mr Idris, also the Kauran Gwandu in Gwandu Emirate, said this while addressing youths in Yauri area of the state on the negative consequences of drug abuse and political thuggery.

“We observed that this menace is a result of unemployment, but if we eventually come to power, we are going to establish a ministry that will be mandated to fish out drug addicts and thugs across the state,” the governorship candidate said.

The candidate, represented by Kabiru Sani-Giant, a member of the Tinubu/Shettima North-West Campaign Organisation, observed that political thuggery had become part and parcel of Nigerian politics, which must be addressed.

“The ministry will sensitise such a category of persons and create job opportunities to enable them not only become self-reliant but also employers of labour and useful members of the society.

“When these youth have something to do, nobody will lure them to engage in anything thuggery again, this we promised, and by the grace of God Almighty, we are going to do that,” he stated.

While acknowledging that thuggery in Nigerian politics had become a norm, Mr Idris advised the youths to be cautious by conducting themselves in electioneering campaigns and play politics according to its rules and regulations.
