Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development Dame Tallen has appealed to women to shun peanuts given to them by some politicians to induce them to sell their conscience.

Ms Tallen made the appeal while speaking on the forthcoming elections during an interview on Sunday in Abuja.

The minister also urged women to talk to their children and not allow themselves to be used to disrupt the electoral process through rigging and snatching ballot boxes.

Ms Tallen said whoever will succeed President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023 will be determined through women’s support for one another.

“if women can support one another, we can determine who becomes the president of Nigeria,” she said.

The minister expressed joy that there is a female governorship candidate in a ruling party for the first time in Nigeria’s history.

“We must support her and all other female candidates to ensure they sail through. Our voices must be heard,” Ms Tallen said.

She reiterated the ministry’s resolve to support and promote programmes that uplift Nigerian women.

“We must engage women in programmes that will improve their wellbeing,” Ms Tallen said.

Also, the permanent secretary of the ministry, Shehu Shinkafi, said, “women have the numerical strength, but unfortunately, we are not making use of it.”

Mr Shinkafi stressed the need for women to be united and support one another to enable them to succeed in whatever they set out to do.
