25,847 meters installed under NMMP framework in 2023: NERC
The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission says 25,847 metres were installed under the National Mass Metering Programme framework in 2023.
NERC said this on its website on Tuesday in its 2023 Annual Report.
The report showed that Yola, Eko and Benin Electricity Distribution Company (DisCos) had the highest meter installations. It showed that Yola DisCo installed 16,574 meters, Eko DisCo installed 6,324 meters, and Benin DisCo installed 2,314 meters.
According to the report, Yola DisCo had 64.12 per cent, Eko DisCo recorded 24.47 per cent, and Benin recorded 8.95 per cent of customers metered under the framework.
The report showed Jos installed 529 meters, Kaduna 99 and Ibadan seven with the least recorded meter installations.
“Abuja, Enugu, Ikeja, Kano and Port Harcourt DisCos achieved 100 per cent meter installations from the meters allocated for customers within their franchise area under the framework,” it said.
The report showed that the Meter Asset Provider framework also accounted for 585,265 meter installations in 2023.
According to the report, the increase in the number of meters installed in 2023 under the MAP framework can be attributed to the winding down of the NMMP phase zero.
”Which led DisCos to intensify metering through the MAP framework in an attempt to further close the metering gap in the Nigeria Electricity Supply Industry,” it said.
The report further stated that Ikeja metered 147,604 customers, representing 25.22 per cent, Ibadan metered 125,752, representing 21.49 per cent, and Abuja metered 103,200, representing 17.63 per cent.
The NERC said Enugu metered 73,256, representing 12.52, and Port Harcourt DisCo metered 48,989, representing 8.37 r per cent. It said the DisCos that have completed their meter installations under the NMMP framework recorded the highest number of meters installed under the MAP framework in 2023.
The report listed the DisCos to include Kaduna 9,887, which is 1.69 per cent, Yola 2,681, which is 0.46 per cent, and Kano 2,056, which is 0.35 per cent, recorded the lowest meter installations under the MAP in 2023.
Six thousand nine hundred and twelve meters were installed under the vendor finance metering framework in 2023. Only three DisCos, Benin 2,849, Ikeja 2,109, and Abuja 1,954, installed meters under the vendor-financed metering framework in 2023.
Fifty-three customers were metered under the DisCo financed framework by Kaduna DisCo in 2023.
