About 45 football clubs from 11 local government areas of Katsina North Senatorial District in Katsina State will participate in the 7th edition of the Muhammadu Buhari Football Tournament.

The Chairman of the organising Committee, Sani Dauda, disclosed this on Friday when he visited the former president in his residence in Daura.

Mr Dauda said that this year’s competition, which would take place in two centres in Daura and Kankia Local Government Areas, would commence on August 2, 2024.

He highlighted that the tournament would assist in getting budding talented footballers from the grass-roots that could represent the state during competitions.

Mr Dauda further said the tournament would also significantly contribute to reducing youth involvement in drug abuse, theft, thuggery and other social vices.

The chairman expressed gratitude to Mr Buhari for his financial and moral support towards ensuring the success of the competition.

Also speaking, the Dan Madamin Daura, Musa Haro, praised the organisers for their efforts in encouraging youths to engage in sporting activities as a means of livelihood.

A trophy for the best clubs, awards for the best player and top goal scorer, among others, were presented to the former president.
