A 50-year-old man, Rafiu Ayantayo, who stood as surety for his son, Biodun, was on Thursday arraigned in an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan, Oyo State, for allegedly failing to produce him in court for trial.

The police charged Mr Ayantayo with perverting the course of justice.

The police had charged Biodun with house breaking and theft.

The Prosecutor, Inspector Toyin Ibrahim, told the court that Ayantayo failed to produce him in court on March 26, as promised.

Mr Ibrahim said Mr Ayantayo committed an offence contrary to Section 126(1) of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.

The defendant however pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Magistrate, Kausarat Ayofe, admitted him to bail in the sum of N50, 000 and two sureties in like sum.

Mrs Ayofe held that one of the sureties must be a blood relation to the defendant.

She adjourned the case until June 4 for hearing.
