Series “Shogun” and “The Bear” dominated the Emmy nominations on Wednesday, each garnering more than 20 nominations.
The Emmy Awards, presented by the Television Academy to honour excellence in the television industry, announced the nominations for the 76th award ceremony.
This event follows closely with the rescheduled 75th Emmy Awards, moved from September 2023 to January 2024 due to strikes by writers and actors the previous year.
“The Bear” made headlines by breaking a 15-year-old record, earning the most nominations ever recorded for a comedy in a single year.
“The Bear,” which clinched six awards in the last ceremony held in January, including the prestigious title of Outstanding Comedy Series, continues its meteoric rise.
The show follows Carmen “Carmy” Berzatto, a young chef from the fine dining world who comes home to Chicago to run his family’s sandwich shop after a heartbreaking death in his family.
The series is lauded for its raw portrayal of the pressures and complexities of the culinary world, combined with a deeply personal narrative that resonates with audiences.
“Shogun” is a reimagining of James Clavell’s iconic novel, set in the 17th century.
The series follows the shipwrecked English navigator John Blackthorne as he becomes embroiled in the political and cultural upheavals of feudal Japan.
With its rich storytelling and elaborate production, “Shogun” has captivated viewers, transporting them to a vividly depicted era of samurai and shoguns.
The 76th Emmy Awards is set for Sunday, September 15, 2024, and will be broadcast live from the Peacock Theater at L.A. Live in Los Angeles.
The ceremony will air on ABC and be available to stream on Hulu the next day.
This year’s eligibility period includes series that premiered between June 1, 2023, and May 31, 2024.
