A Grade I Area Court in Abuja on Monday sentenced two night clubbers to nine months’ imprisonment each for stealing N400,000 cash and a cell phone worth N80,000.

Miracle Felix and James Hemen, who live in Mabushi, Abuja, pleaded guilty to criminal conspiracy and theft.

The convicts begged the court for leniency, and Judge Sulyman Ola gave them an option of a N40,000 fine.

Mr Ola ordered the convicts to pay N180,000 as compensation to the complainant or serve two more months’ imprisonment in place of the compensation.

Prosecution counsel, Chinedu Ogada, told the court that, on July 4 at about 1:00 a.m., the police patrol team of Mabushi police station led by Insp Abubakar Harun apprehended the convicts.

Mr Ogada said the patrol team arrested the convicts while raiding black spots and criminal hideouts around Mabushi.

He said the convicts committed the offence with one Joshua, now at large.

The prosecutor added that the convicts conspired and stole 400,000, a Tecno Camon 18 cell phone valued at N80,000 and $5 in club 345 in Wuse.

He said that during the police investigation, the convicts made a confessional statement, and N300,000 was recovered from them.

Mr Ogada said the offence contravenes the provisions of sections 97 and 287 of the Penal Code.
