A 37-year-old man, Hassan Isa, was on Tuesday arraigned in a magistrates’ court in Karu, in Abuja, for allegedly losing his neighbour’s two rams to escape.

The defendant, who resides in Kugbo, Abuja, is being tried for criminal breach of trust, cheating and criminal misappropriation.

He, however, denied committing the said offence.

The prosecution counsel, Olarewaju Osho, told the court that the complainant, Aisha Yusuf, of the same address as the defendant, reported the matter at the Karu Police Station on June 8.

According to him, on June 7, the defendant came to her house and untied her two rams, valued at the sum of N185,000. He said he wanted to take them for grazing.

He said that with the intent of cheating the complainant, the defendant returned without the rams, explaining that they were missing.

Mr Osho further added that during the police investigation, the defendant could not give a satisfactory account of the said ram.

The offence contravened sections 312, 322 and 309 of the Penal Code.

The judge, Ngozi Okonkwo, however, granted the defendant N100,000 bail with one surety in like sum and adjourned the case until July 9 for hearing.
