Abuja painter arraigned for stealing AC cables

A 36-year-old painter, Friday Adams, was arraigned on Friday before the Life Camp Chief Magistrates’ Court in Abuja for allegedly stealing an air-conditioner cable worth N350,000.
Mr Adams is standing trial on charges of criminal trespass and theft. He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, Charity Nwachukwu, told the court that a complainant, Oketunbi Samuel, manager of Carix Estate Idu Karmo in Abuja, had reported the case at the Karmo Police Station on November 4, 2025.
Ms Nwachukwu said that on the same date, the defendant criminally trespassed into an apartment in the estate to steal the air-conditioner cables, valued at N350,000.
He said that the defendant, however, was caught and handed over to the police.
She said that during the investigation, the defendant made a confessional statement but could not give a satisfactory account of his actions.
The offence contravenes sections 289 and 349 of the Penal Code.
The chief magistrate, Musa Jobbo, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000 with one surety in like sum.
He held that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.
The court adjourned the case until April 8 for a hearing.
