Bathiya Wesley, speaker of the eighth Adamawa House of Assembly, says the House introduced 51 bills and passed 20 into law in the last two years.

Mr Wesley stated this on Tuesday in Yola during a courtesy visit by the correspondents’ chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).

He called the legislative output “an unprecedented achievement” in the state’s history.

Mr Wesley said the laws passed include the Adamawa State Appropriation Law 2024, the Information Technology Development Agency Law 2024, the Teachers Service Commission Law, and the Health Supplies Management Agency Law.

Others include the College of Agriculture, Science and Technology, Ganye Law, the District Creation Law, the Water Supply and Sanitation Services Law, and the College of Nursing Sciences (Repeal and Re-enactment) Law 2024.

The speaker added that the assembly had also adopted several motions and resolutions aimed at promoting good governance.

He added that this includes a vote of confidence in Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, a resolution to organise a legislative retreat, and a call for the recruitment of more qualified teachers in public schools.

The speaker praised journalists for their professionalism and timely reportage, especially during recent flooding incidents. He stressed that the media remains a vital partner in democratic governance.

Earlier, the vice chairperson of the NUJ Correspondents’ Chapel, Golfa Francis, commended the speaker for his leadership and commitment to grassroots development.

She noted that the cordial relationship between the media and the assembly had enhanced governance in the state.
