The Mubi South Local Government Council in Adamawa State inaugurated 350 shops at the Yadafa district market on Monday to boost economic activity in the area.

During the inauguration of the shopping complex, the council chairman, Hamidu Jingi, said that the initiative would boost the revenue of the council as well as promote trading activities in the area.

He said that the market would attract patronage from the neighbouring communities of Maiha, Mubi, other villages and even the Cameroon Republic.

Mr Jingi said that adequate security arrangements had been put in place, adding that restrooms and potable water were also provided for the convenience of traders and buyers in the market.

“We are expecting to generate N200,000 in revenue every week from this market,” he said.

In his remarks, Abdulkadir Mohammed, Zonal chairman of the state Chamber of Commerce, said no fewer than 1,500 people were expected in the market for business every Monday.

Also, Abubakar Galadima, district head of the area, lauded the council for the construction of the shops in the market, saying it had opened up the communities for economic activities.

He pledged the support of traditional rulers for government programmes aimed at rapid socio-economic development in the area.

Mr Galadima commended the administration of Governor Ahmadu Fintiri for its efforts in the provision of critical infrastructure across the state.
