ADC Lagos guber candidate Funso Doherty defects to PDP
The Lagos state governorship candidate of the Action Democratic Congress (ADC) at the 2023 election, Funso Doherty, has defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Mr Doherty announced this in a press statement on Monday which he shared on his official X handle and attached with his resignation letter from the ADC, dated July 22, 2024.
Mr Doherty said, “After extensive consultations, it is with humility and great expectations, for Lagos state’s future that I announce that I have joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).”
Mr Doherty, who explained that his decision to embark on the journey to the PDP, was in the belief that the state needs a strong, credible alternative for voters, lamented the lack of some basic amenities in the state.
He said that “it is time to present a united front against the current entitled, insensitive and self-serving leadership that celebrates the unacceptable status quo,” saying the goal “is to deliver effective, inclusive, and accountable governance for the people of Lagos.”
He said the PDP, “with its national presence, institutional structure, and broad recognition,” is the best platform to challenge the statu quo in the state, noting that “with the right candidates, we can build a successful movement.”
Recognising the intra-party differences, which he said must be navigated and managed, Mr Doherty expressed his commitment to working with others to bring solutions.
