Garba Shehu, a former spokesperson for ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, says the former Attorney-General and Minister of Justice Mohammed Adoke lacks the moral character to speak on anti-corruption matters in the country.

In a statement he personally signed on Sunday, Mr Shehu referred to the former AGF as a freeman escaping the massive corruption his administration had imposed upon millions of Nigerians.

He said the large scale of corruption perpetrated by the Adoke-led justice ministry administration should be a script for a Nollywood/Kannywood blockbuster all by itself.

“Former Attorney-General and Minister of Justice Mohammed Adokie has been enjoying a spotlight, masquerading as an anti-corruption character in a skit for which he is ill-suited. He neither has the track record nor the moral standing to accuse anyone of corruption, not least the former President Muhammadu Buhari.

“The fact that this character is a free man, walking away from the industrial-corruption their administration foisted on the 200 million-plus Nigerians is an Eighth Wonder. So vast was its scale, it is today a subject of international scrutiny. That should be a script for a Nollywood/Kannywood blockbuster all by itself,” Mr Shehu said.

Mr Shehu said this in reaction to a recent comment by Mr Adoke in which he described the administration of the immediate past president, Muhammadu Buhari, as the “most incompetent” Nigeria ever had.

He went ahead to say that the Buhari government was run by “a set of political morons.”

Mr Adoke served as AFG between 2010 to 2015, under former president Goodluck Jonathan. Anti-corruption groups had said he largely withdrew roughly 25 prominent cases. He was also charged with corruption by the Buhari administration for alleged mismanagement of public office.

In reaction, Mr Shehu also highlighted several ill-fated corruption cases mismanaged by Mr Adoke involving the Process & Industrial Developments (P&ID), Paris Club funds.

Mr Shehu said the cases cited by Mr Adoke as a reference point of corruption were cases that originated from an administration in which he himself was the man responsible for the administration of justice.

He said Mr Buhari came on a rescue mission and effectively saved Nigeria from corrupt undertones that were planted to expose its economy to imminent collapse.

According to him, the success of the Buhari administration in the direction of the fight against corruption is unprecedented.
