Nigerian sprinter Olayinka Olajide has clinched the country’s first medal in athletics at the African Games in Accra. 

Racing in the women’s 100m event, Olajide surged to a well-deserved Bronze with a time of 11.55 seconds. This achievement marks her debut on the senior international stage representing Nigeria, highlighting her promising talent.

The race witnessed a thrilling showdown, with Gina Bass of Zambia seizing the spotlight by upgrading her Silver from Rabat 2019 to Gold in Accra. 

Clocking an impressive time of 11.36 seconds despite challenging conditions with a -1.5 wind speed, Bass showcased her prowess and determination on the track.

Maia McCoy of Liberia also delivered an outstanding performance, securing the Silver medal at 11.49 seconds.

As Olayinka Olajide basks in the glory of her historic achievement, her Bronze medal signifies personal success and reflects Nigeria’s growing presence and competitiveness in international athletics.
