The attorney general of the federation, Abubakar Malami, has dismissed the House of Representatives committee’s investigation alleging his involvement in over $2.4 billion in oil revenue loss. He said the committee’s investigative hearing was unnecessary because it had nothing to do with his office and personality.

The oil revenue is from the illegal sales of 48 million barrels of crude oil exported in 2015, including crude oil exports from 2014 to date.

The committee had several times invited Mr Malami without success forcing the committee to reissue a summons against the justice minister on Wednesday.

Mark Gbillah, the committee chairman, said Mr Malami was invited to shed light on his office’s involvement per receipt authorisation and general payment remitted.

Mr Malami claimed that the matter raised by the whistleblower leading to his involvement was baseless and lacking in substance.

Mr Malami said he was not privy to any documents involving him, adding that the auditor general of the federation had not also made documents available to him or his office.
